Huffing and puffing our way through the stairs
And there are still more spiral steps to go
Oh shall we stop now, as the winding paces go
My head’s turning like a corkscrew and I can’t stop
Its helix curved upward toward the floors above
Huffing and puffing our way through the stairs
My heart’s beating hard as I’m ever so aware
Feeling my salty sweat and swollen legs
And there are still more spiral steps to go
Oh look, smoke coiled lazily towards the ceiling
Quick let’s go down to find out what’s happening
Oh shall we stop now, as the winding paces go*

* Cascade, a form created by Udit Bhatia, is all about receptiveness, but in a smooth cascading way like a waterfall. The poem does not have any rhyme scheme; therefore, the layout is simple. Say the first verse has three lines. Line one of verse one becomes the last line of verse two. To follow in suit, the second line of verse one becomes the last line of verse three. The third line of verse one now becomes the last line of verse four, the last stanza of the poem. See the structure example below:
a/b/c, d/e/A, f/g/B, h/i/C

Oh what a beautiful spiral staircase! I love it. 🙂
This is a great poem and made me feel the same breathlessness that I feel when I have to take the stairs. They are hard work! I have a lung disorder, plus stairs are not my friend because I often fall on them. But, I have to use the stairs because elevators are unbearable.
Have a blessed day!

Enjoyed this one Lady Lee. I’m not sure if in so many stairs I would want t just go down or at this point, keep going to the top!
