Poetry Prompts Day 31 – OctPoWriMo 2016 – Eternal

“That is not dead which can eternal life
And with strange aeons even death may die”
For smoking can bring you to an early hearse
Do something now for it can go worse

Too much television will make you etiolate
Don’t get lost, you need some fresh air
In this wide world, I can be your date
Don’t worry I’ll be fair and square

Many people suffer vague symptoms
The sun was well past the zenith
We were served by obsequious waiters
On our table they kept on coming

The nightshade can be poisonous
I’m your anchor, I’m not boneless
I let out a breath along with a little murmur
Of thanks for all the blessing that I was given

Poetry Prompts Day 29 – OctPoWriMo 2016 – Upside Down

my upside-down world where everything is different
and I can express myself in a dramatic vociferant

where day is night and we sleep in the day
in a land so faraway but halfway

for I’ve birds on my wire, and my thoughts won’t gel
I must struggle to wipe off all this béchamel

when you agree, you say no
and now I’m in Limbo

and black is bright and white is dark
its contrast so very stark

Poetry Prompts Day 28 – OctPoWriMo 2016 – Sea Shells

jungle queen

I am the queen of the jungle, hear me roar
I love nature, trees, animals and seashore
Wild at heart, exploring open spaces
I climb, jump, bounce like cheetahs
I made my house on top of the tree
I love talking to animals with glee
If I want to, I can jump off waterfalls
I run down the hill and do a cannonball
I learn a lot by observing animals
From birds, butterflies and beetles
I’m their friend, looking after them
I can even write them a prose or poem
I make jewellery out of shells and barks
Sing a song like a song of a meadowlark
I love my simple life, eat when I want
No worries, I’m quite nonchalant
Zip line from one jungle to another
Or go to the lake or river that’s bluer
I’m Ladylee – queen of the jungle!

Poetry Prompts Day 27 – OctPoWriMo 2016 – Favourite Scent

A lovely afternoon and we are walking up the mountain. The wind brushes my hair, the scents of the flowers in the air and we can hear birds singing. A chill creeps into the air, but just a nip to let us know a new season is at hand.

all over the hill
the scent of blooming bluebell
blue wild hyacinth

blue wild hyacinth
as we walk up the mountain
swaying with the wind

swaying with the wind
soon the hill will be aflame
riot of gold and red

Poetry Prompts Day 26 – OctPoWriMo 2016 – “abandonment”

Here I was all alone
Abandoned however I groan
Deserted until I have grown
Relinquished to what I had known
Left here to atone*

Poetry Prompts Day 26 – OctPoWriMo 2016 – Red

red is my favourite colour

tantalising to my taste buds*

Poetry Prompts Day 24 – OctPoWriMo 2016 – Fantastical

one of the most fascinating places I’ve been
tons of geological oddity of honeycombed hills
stun I was when I first saw these crazy structures
none of the other places can be compared to their frills

how extraordinary they are and at the same time chaotic
bow to its fantastical topography matched by human history
row and row of marvellous troglodyte-style architecture
show us more of towering boulders of otherworldly beauty*

* A poetic form created by Lencio Dominic Rodrigues, the Lento is named after it’s creator, taken from his first name Lencio and rhymed to Cento, an existing form of poetry.

A Lento consists of two quatrains with a fixed rhyme scheme of abcb, defe as the second and forth lines of each stanza must rhyme. To take it a step further, but not required, try rhyming the first and third lines as well as the second and forth lines of each stanza in this rhyming pattern: abab, cdcd. The fun part of this poem is thrown in here as all the FIRST words of each verse should rhyme. There is no fixed syllable structure to the Lento, but keeping a good, flowing rhythm is recommended.

When dreams fade away

image copyright neha 2016

I cried in the middle of the garden
not one bird would come and sing a song
all that was left was a bare branch
I felt a chill in my bones
I heard my heart shattered
and the world seemed black
when you left me
fade away
our dreams

Poetry Prompts Day 22 – OctPoWriMo 2016 – Dangerous

danger lurking behind
desperate for menace
despondent and unkind
dagger in the bus

an insecure position
anything can happen
and vulnerable to action
a wild night-out to shun

nowhere safe
night time especially
not reliable for waif
news of danger to flee

over thinking?
only being prepared
once danger coming
only I can be scared*
