Show Your World – A Paradise in Coron, Palawan

Hello. We’ve just got back from our holiday and one of the places we stayed was in the island of Coron, Palawan, Philippines. It was beautiful! Club Paradise Resort is on a secluded island about 60 minutes from the airport by land and sea. Once on the island, we were on a beautiful tropical paradise with a nice sandy beach and simple but clean facilities. The beachfront cottages have gorgeous views of the ocean. Snorkelling was fun and exciting! House reef was fantastic. Sea water was crystalline and very clear. Saw a school of fish, barracuda, angel fish, sting rays, jelly fish, small shark, and fish of different species and colours. We basically snorkelled most of the time that we were there. It was just amazing! We also enjoyed hiking up the Eagle’s Point and nature watching, like watching for the monitor lizard to pass by or the bats flying, not to forget the beautiful sunset outside our cottage.

Filipino Dishes – Show Your World link up

Our national dish, adobo! Filipinos can cook it anywhere in the world, as long as we have the main ingredients: chicken or pork, vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, salt and pepper. Marinate all the ingredients, fry them with a little oil, then simmer them until cooked.

Stir-frying is my favourite style of cooking – chop all ingredients in small sizes, like julienne. Fry garlic, ginger and onions, first, then add beef and the vegetables. Add oyster sauce, chilli sauce, soy sauce and voila – stir-fried beef!

Preserved ampalaya and atsara – good accompaniment for any grilled or fried fish, chicken, pork or beef.

Pancit palabok – is the first meal I ask when I come home to the Philippines because I don’t cook it here. It has some seafood like shrimps, dried fish or tinapa, boiled eggs, glass noodles, etc. Delicious!

Favourite breakfast – also known as tapsilog which is a short form of tapa, sinangag (fried rice) and itlog (eggs)

Grilled squid – yummy! Stuffed with tomatoes, onions, garlic, some herbs, salt and pepper.

Lovely soup – chicken, unriped papaya, ginger, onions. Good when one has a cold. Or when one is homesick.

Our favourite dessert! My brother has got this super recipe and it’s to die for! 10 egg yolks, 1 can of condensed milk, 2 cans of evaporated milk, some rinds of lemon. The secret is to caramelise some sugar in a dish, sieve the mixture then steam it, or bain marie it.

Show Your World – Hundred Islands, Alaminos City, Pangasinan, Philippines

We had a trip to Hundred Islands and its home, Alaminos City when I was in the Philippines. The trip itself was a great diversion from the hustle and bustle of the busy, urban life. The rice paddies, azure sea and the rustic and peaceful lifestyle were refreshing as we made our way to Alaminos City. And upon arrival, we savoured the city’s unique and dynamic spirit, friendly atmosphere and especially, the beauty and adventure that lies in the hundred wonders that is Hundred Islands. The islands were believed to be about two million years old. They were actually ancient corals that extend well inland, in an area previously comprising the seabed of an ancient sea. The lowering of the sea level have exposed them to the surface. The peculiar “mushroom-like” shapes of some of the islands were caused by the eroding actions of the ocean waves.

Show Your World – Coventry, England

Hello everyone! I’m going to show you Him Indoor’s city – Coventry. He was born there and his parents still live there. Funny enough, my younger brother and his family live there, too. My brother is a nurse and after working in Stirling, Scotland, he moved to Birmingham and now in Coventry. Anyway, back to Coventry – it is a city and a metropolitan borough in the centre of England. It’s outstanding heritage includes the Roman Fort of Baginton, Lady Godiva, St. Mary’s Guild Hall and the three cathedrals – the 12th century Priory Church of St Mary, the medieval Parish Church Cathedral of St Michael and the modern Coventry Cathedral, also named for St Michael.

Show Your World – Cappadocia, Turkey

Two years ago, I went on a tour with my friend in college. I flew to her place and together we joined the tour. Güngor was our tourist guide and he was a very good guide. We started in Antalya, travelled to Cappadocia, then other parts of Turkey and back to Antalya after a week. The rest of the group stayed there for another week for their sea/beach holiday. The holiday was a success!

Red Fort, Delhi – Show Your World

The Red sandstone walls of the massive Red Fort (Lal Qila) rise 33-m above the clamour of Old Delhi as a reminder of the magnificent power and pomp of the Mughal emperors. The walls, built in 1638, were designed to keep out invaders, now they mainly keep out the noise and confusion of the city.

The main gate, Lahore Gate, is one of the emotional and symbolic focal points of the modern Indian nation and attracts a major crowd on each Independence Day.
