Fine Dining

Hi everyone. Last weekend, we celebrated our Pearl Anniversary and we had fine dining at Das Kranzbach. We dined for two nights and here are some of the luxuries in life that we’ve tasted. They were all exquisite!

These were our starters.

Tasty Thursdays – What We Had Recently

Food, all the glorious food
Always keeps us in good mood

All the planning, shopping, cooking
All the ways – to steam, fry, baking

Roast duck, beef and chicken, all tasty
Don’t eat snack now, it ruins your tea

And as for desserts, leche flan or cake
Chocolate mousse, apple pie or cheesecake

Food, glorious food, happy as we could all be
Everyone is welcome to our eating spree

Green Papaya Salad

IMGP6052

I made my first green papaya salad yesterday and it was delicious. I just made it up and my ingredients include: grated unriped green papaya, chopped tomatoes, celery leaves, coriander leaves, cut into small pieces sitaw (long beans), fish sauce, lime juice, chillies, peanuts and in a mortar and pestle some garlic, ginger being crushed. Mix all ingredients and voila! Fresh green papaya salad. Enjoy!

Leche Flan and Other Sweets

leche flan
leche flan

Leche Flan is my favourite dessert. My brother has this recipe and it’s so yummy! Here it is: 10 egg yolks, 2 cans evaporated milk, 1 can condensed milk, rinds of a lemon. First of all, prepare your tins and caramelised some sugar in them. Just put a couple of spoons of sugar in the tins and in a medium heat keep on stirring until brown caramelised. Put them aside. For the leche flan, put all the ingredients together, slightly stirring it, making sure no air formed. Double sieve it to the tins you have put aside with the caramelised sugar. Steam them until done. Put them in the refrigerator. Best served cold. Enjoy!

And here are some photos of other sweets:

Pancit Canton – Tasty Thursdays

pancit canton

Pancit Canton is a well-known Filipino food strongly influenced by Chinese cooking. It’s a noodle dish made from rice flour or wheat flavoured with meat, vegetables, soy sauce, and some spices. Just like the Chinese, Filipinos believe that eating pancit during birthdays makes the person live longer, therefore there’s always pancit during this special occasion. However, through time this delectable dish has become a regular menu on Filipino tables, making it one of the most cooked and popular dishes in Philippine cuisine. The ingredients include pancit canton noodles, pork, chicken breasts, shrimps, carrots, cabbage, green beans, onions, garlic, soy sauce, chicken broth, salt and pepper.

To cook: first heat a wok or frying pan, put a bit of oil, fry the pork first (cut them into cubes), then the chicken (also in cubes) and then the shrimps. Put them aside in a dish. The vegetables can be sliced or julienne. In the same wok or pan, add some oil and start frying garlic, onions, carrots and green beans. Season with soy sauce, salt and pepper. Put aside. In another pan, boil some chicken stock, add the pancit canton noodles and the shredded cabbage. As it’s cooking, add the rest of the ingredients (meat and vegetables). Add some lemon juice and a dash of sesame oil at the end. Serve while hot. Enjoy your pancit canton!
