birdcage

I long to fly in the sky
To soar up the cliffs with the others
To say goodbye as I fly high
The wind brushing my feathers
Free me from the bondage of poverty
Rift the cage so I can get out to freedom
I beg of you, please set me free
To eat some crumbs and then some
Cart me out to a world where I’m welcome
Free me from hunger as seen from my papery wings
Somehow I can prove that I’m awesome
I want to experience the world and what it brings
I’m all flesh and bones, so please give me some bread
I’m baffled – why can’t I be just like any ordinary bird?
I’d like my wings to be able to spread
I can tweet but not bark or purred
The absence of responsibilities, worries and hardship
To be able to sustain a world full of innocence and fun
I miss the nature, the water to sip
I think I’ve won if I could feel the sun
Give me love and I can understand that in any language
I long to fly in the sky and soar up the cliffs
Don’t give me anything, I’m sure I can manage
Just set me free and I’m off in a jiff

wild flowers abound
grass so green and sky so blue
beauty around us

frame of nature
the gentle waves of the sea
watching the sunset

coconut trees sway
paddy fields in the background
birds chirping sweetly

Periyar Tiger Reserve

Hello everyone! Two days after the Hindu wedding, we went on a road trip. There were 18 of us in a big van and travelled 165 km, roughly 4 hours from Cochin to Thekkady. It was an interesting trip, with The Corporation Market, Kakkadassery Bridge, St Xavier’s Church and Bavas Archana Hospital on the way. Several petrol pumps were also located en route. It was a good experience, very long travel in the hairpin bend roads. Full of greenery on both sides of the roads.

We went to Periyar Tiger Reserve., which was a very well maintained area managed by the forest department in Kerela. The area was clean and we had a peaceful walk through its dense forest of towering trees and artistic roots. The Periyar lake is within the reserve and there were regular boat rides on the lake. We took the boat ride (1.5 hours of boating) and saw some amazing birds, like hornbills and kingfishers in full flight. Other birds include raptors, water birds, galliform birds, pigeons, wood peckers and passerines. There were also some sambar deers, foxes, monkeys, elephants and bisons, but from a great distance to such a point the animals appear as tiny dots. Overall, it was a good road trip and a boat ride.

Panakot-Uwak

photo-20160626134608912
This week’s photo prompt is provided by Louise with The Storyteller’s Abode. Thank you Louise!

Panakot-Uwak used to be a bored scarecrow, with his old rag clothes and straw face and body. Birds poked his face, not scared of him at all and children threw some sticks and stones at him. That was before. Now he’s got an important job – being a spy. He reported for duty at the Scarecrow Intelligence Agency (SIA), his old clothes still wet. It has been raining over there, he said. He tried to sneak over to the farmhouse by crouching or leaning forward to get closer without being seen. It wasn’t easy. After all, he wasn’t expected to move about. He’s supposed to scare crows and other big birds. He was sent to this farm to get some evidence that the farm is also involved in other notorious activities. And so, he reported what he’s seen, heard, the comings and goings and he felt ever so important and useful.

Carpe Diem Tokubetsudesu #78 Soliloquy no Renga “sutumn night” by Santoka Taneda

Aki noyo ya inu kara morattari neko ni ataetari

Autumn night–
I received it from the dog
And gave it to the cat.

© Santoka Taneda

The dog licked his bone
The cat purred all night

Early spring
Tortoises in the garden
Eating dandelions

Birds building their nests
The birdhouse is popular

The height of spring
All the blossoms of the apple
Such a delight to see

Rain and sun alternating
Plants are swaying to say thanks

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

giphy

Words: rainbow, lemon, bloom, dare, fly, why

somewhere over the rainbow blue birds fly
and the blooms in our apple trees are there
unexplained things, would I dare to ask why?
lemon trees are so pretty everywhere
I’m Sagittarian, he’s a Gemini
With his shirt and tie, he’s a debonair
I dream, he dreams, forever we are one
And for us the most vital thing is fun

P is for Paradelle

Paradelle is a poetic form that Billy Collins originally introduced as “one of the more demanding French forms,” though eventually Collins fessed up that he created it as a joke.

Collins was not kidding about the demanding rules of the paradelle. Here they are:

The paradelle is a 4-stanza poem.
Each stanza consists of 6 lines.
For the first 3 stanzas, the 1st and 2nd lines should be the same; the 3rd and 4th lines should also be the same; and the 5th and 6th lines should be composed of all the words from the 1st and 3rd lines and only the words from the 1st and 3rd lines.
The final stanza should be composed of all the words in the 5th and 6th lines of the first three stanzas and only the words from the 5th and 6th lines of the first three stanzas.

POLLY, THE PARROT
Who’s a pretty parrot, Polly?
Who’s a pretty parrot, Polly?
Yes, you are, so colourful bird
Yes, you are, so colourful bird
Oh yes, you’re so pretty Polly
A parrot, you’re so colourful

Ring, ring, hello, are you okay?
Ring, ring, hello, are you okay?
Teach the parrot how to say “hi”
Teach the parrot how to say “hi”
Ring, ring parrot says hello, hi
Teach: hello and are you okay?

My sole companion, my Polly
My sole companion, my Polly
She’s so appealing and friendly
She’s so appealing and friendly
My friendly Polly, appealing
My Polly, companion so sole

My friendly sole companion bird
Bird so pretty and colourful
Teach Polly to ring and say hello
She says hi and how are you?
Yes, you’re so appealing, Polly
Oh yes, you’re a pretty parrot
