Home Thoughts
by Claude McKay

Oh something just now must be happening there!
That suddenly and quiveringly here,
Amid the city’s noises, I must think
Of mangoes leaning o’er the river’s brink,
And dexterous Davie climbing high above,
The gold fruits ebon-speckled to remove,
And toss them quickly in the tangled mass
Of wis-wis twisted round the guinea grass;
And Cyril coming through the bramble-track
A prize bunch of bananas on his back;
And Georgie–none could ever dive like him–
Throwing his scanty clothes off for a swim;
And schoolboys, from Bridge-tunnel going home,
Watching the waters downward dash and foam.
This is no daytime dream, there’s something in it,
Oh something’s happening there this very minute!

What are you thankful for today?

I am thankful for our home, home sweet home!

JNW’s Halloween Challenge: Gate

It started with a silly row
She said this, he said that
She stormed into the kitchen
He stumped two minutes later
They shouted at each other
Full of resentments and tears
Would this leaves questions
Eroding confidence of love?
Next day was his birthday
She tiptoed to their room
With dazzling smiles
Saying sorry with a rose
She gazed at him in mute appeal
Her weapon of reconciliation
His eyes sparked, all forgiven
Choking with emotion and love
Flaws were behind the gate again

Thursday photo prompt – Gate – #writephoto

gate

This used to be our garden
We ran, spun and had fun
The old oak tree by the fence
We were loud and had some pun

We were brash and made pretence
Quite rambunctious, no offense
Running till we were breathless
Between us, we had sixpence

This gate used to creak, no fuss
Playing hide and seek with us
Outside until we were tanned
The world was vast, was bonus

This used to be our dreamland
Played everywhere and the sand
We grew up fast, world expand
This was our gate, always grand*
