Since Thou Hast Given Me This Good Hope, O God
by Robert Louis Stevenson

SINCE thou hast given me this good hope, O God,
That while my footsteps tread the flowery sod
And the great woods embower me, and white dawn
And purple even sweetly lead me on
From day to day, and night to night, O God,
My life shall no wise miss the light of love;
But ever climbing, climb above
Man’s one poor star, man’s supine lands,
Into the azure steadfastness of death,
My life shall no wise lack the light of love,
My hands not lack the loving touch of hands;
But day by day, while yet I draw my breath,
And day by day, unto my last of years,
I shall be one that has a perfect friend.
Her heart shall taste my laughter and my tears,
And her kind eyes shall lead me to the end.

Tiger, tiger you’re astonishing
The sight of you made me marvel
With open mouth and wide eyes
I truly can’t believe I’m seeing you
Such brilliant creature in this jungle

It took us two days of jeep safari
The first afternoon we observed other animals
Antelopes, peacocks, parakeets, deer
Loved them, too but we didn’t come here for them
We crossed half the world waiting for you

The next morning, quite so early
The jeep came to fetch us, still yawning
Bouncing up and down the rough terrain
Taking photos of different birds and monkeys
Took a different gate this time, I think it was Gate 2

Tiger, tiger, I thought we were not going to spot you
A couple of hours and we were still driving in this forest
Up and down, quite a site of the mountain range
Got talking to the couple beside me
They were going to Goa after the tour

But lo and behold, other jeeps in one place
That was a good sign, wasn’t it?
They were gazing in the middle of the meadow
There! There it is! Pointed the girl
We all stared in amazement and there you were

Tiger, tiger, you were worth the wait
Such gorgeousness, such elegance and grace
The whole field your recreational area
And look who was coming to play with you
Your brother as elegant as you

Two splendid tigers in one morning
Such a breathtaking experience
Two dynamic tigers in the grassland
Playing, messing around
The whole world to themselves

Tigers, tigers you were the greatest
I won’t stop thinking about the two of you
Highlight of our holiday
You and the Taj Mahal
India in my heart

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Sept. 24/16 – “bus”

PHOTO PROMPT © Ron Pruitt

When we first got married, Him Indoors and I visited the Philippines. We flew to Bicol, one of the provinces in the north of the Philippines and on the way back, flights were cancelled. Instead of waiting for the next flight which could be the next day or the next week, things could be very flexible in the Philippines. Anyway, we decided to take the bus to Manila. Everyone seemed to have the same idea. The bus station was full of people, chickens, pigs, children, cargoes, you name it, they were there, chaos! We ended up being in a decrepit, no air-con bus. We had to stand the first couple of hours. Did I mention that the bus was so full, people were literally hugging each other, not forgetting all the chickens, pigs, baskets of fruits and vegetables, etc. There was a stop – wheel fell off. We waited 3 hours for the man to get nuts in another town. We stood by the side of the road in the middle of the night. People started getting out, so we were able to sit. Then we stopped the second time – puncture on one of the tyres. Another wait. After that, the driver raced another bus along the motorway with a horse and a cart in the slow lane. Never again, we promised. Such a bus experience!

Take Me Along!

I left the Philippines many moons ago
And since then I’ve been venturing out
New frontiers, new challenges
Switzerland – where I saw the first snow
Where I was able to get a job at the United Nations
Where my heart was broken for the first time
Germany – where I met Him Indoors in the lab
Action, reaction, chemistry in motion
First time to camp in a one-man tent
America – ah Hollywood and Rodeo Drive
Met some celebrities, can you believe that?
Went to work on my bike, loved it
Him Indoors came for a visit
We went to see the Grand Canyon, brilliant!
Asked me to marry him and I said yes
Great Britain – got married there
Worked at Boots the Chemist
In their Research, doing Statistics
And back to Germany – had HRH the son
Our pride and joy and we’re still here
26 years later and settling down well
