My Favourite Place

This week’s photo prompt is provided by TJ Paris. Thank you TJ!

I love this place. It’s my favourite place when I want to be alone. There’s something about this library that makes me feel I’m in a trance. The mass of books with atlases, road maps, novels, plays, bits and pieces and news. These books are my friends and companions. They show me interesting things, talk to me and sometimes chant and rant after the first block of information. Like I need to know more, like looking for a treasure hunt, one bit of evidence at a time. And as I read them, I’m being relocated to a totally new world. Where am I again?

The Rise of the Skull

The hour was late
Was this my fate?
In the rippling park
I found a mark
Total darkness
It was so airless
Shimmering paint
Ever so quaint
Swarm of crows
In my place I froze
The fury has erupted
The ground full of mud
Sweeping shadows
Everything was slow
The rise of the skull
Patterned one, I felt dull
Nowhere to hide
Farewell, I sighed

The Find

The first one was a surprise. Then a couple of kilometres away, in the maize tassel, we found another one. Such amazing finds in the tawny dust and mud. We were in the countryside where it was rated as one of the diversely scenic ones in the country. We crept forwards, hardly making a sound. There was mist, cloud cover which impeded our movement. There was a chill in the air. Some wild vines were all over the place. We wanted to carry on with our job, but lots of plasters, big rocks and excessive matters. We felt trapped and frustrated. What shall we do? I probably wasn’t really awake, maybe it was lucid dreaming!

What’s There To Stir?

he lost track of where he is
he can’t find his princess
of his sense, sensibility and mission
like there’s no sun and the fun is none
the willing to stand and itch to go
the world is full of old black crows
of whether it’s spring or summer
she’s not here, what’s there to stir?
or if it’s a day or a night
no need to fight or flight
the lack of gloss of his existence
he used to be brave once

Paul and the Eclipse

Paul can’t keep still. Today’s going to be a great day. He’s taking a day off from work. He’s been working hard lately and he wants to have a break from all the politics, gossips, deadlines, quota and pressure from work. John is covering for him today – John doesn’t mind at all. Paul moved this day off from next month, anticipating the eclipse this evening. He has invited some friends so they could all watch the eclipse. He has prepared some finger food and drinks.

This party is also a sign that Paul has moved on from his split with Anna, his ex-girlfriend. They had been going out for a couple of years when she decided Paul wasn’t for her. She found another boyfriend straight away.

He constantly checks his maps and the weather forecast. He knows that at a certain time, the eclipse will be visible for everyone from his terrace. His friends started arriving and they are all more or less excited. Some brought some salad, drinks and sweets.

In the middle of the party, the weather turned for the worse. The wind howled, clouds covered the sky. Oh no, if this goes on, they won’t be able to see the eclipse. Paul is getting agitated and went to the rear of the garden. Oh well, they were not able to see the eclipse, but they carried on with the party and they all had a great time.

We’ll Dawdle in the Sun

someday we’ll dawdle in the sun
one look from you and my heart’s won
the flowers you planted for me
greet each morning with all the glee

white shirt untucked from your trousers
burned in my memories, no less
you took my hand, didn’t want to flee
greet each morning with all the glee

last time you entered in my screen
made me look and preen like a queen
put swimming clothes on, off to sea
greet each morning with all the glee

someday we’ll dawdle in the sun
greet each morning with all the glee

Off To See The Race

with morning light and grace
woke up and made some tea
wore some lace, cleaned my face
just remembered today’s the grand prix

boiling some eggs at the moment
cell phone rang and it was Anne
she sounded so buoyant
couldn’t keep still as she stands

come and join me watch the race
such boundlessly enthusiastic invite
I tried to sit on my chaise
she’s as high as a kite

next time you ask me for anything
I’ll be with you, she promised
she sings as she swings
so I went but I’m not that fussed

she’s so sure that Mark will be there
Mark races his car with passion and fire
not thinking of the wear and tear
turning and turning in a widening gyre

yearning to see him, that’s for sure
off we went to the races with silken ribbon
saying: “Go, go, go Mark!”
looking forward to seeing her amour
will surely makes her day brighten

What Have You Done To Me?

The siren call of desire
Wrecking my whole existence
Scorching me like a fire
Satiating me in every instance

Every fragment of my being
Still longing to be with you
The ecstasy that you bring
When you’re away I’m blue

What have you done to me?
My yearning swelled to a roar
To all my being here’s the key
You hit me right to the core

Your wild ways and salty language
Make me foolish with craving
You’re my complete package
To you I absolutely cling

ABC of Balderdash

arabesque pose, Aisha is really good with that!
branch manager is her Dad’s job
complex world we live in
deadfall and the twitch-up snare to be sure
error always happens, I make a lot of that!
flash all over the news
gristle and meat stuck in his teeth as he smiles
hard not to laugh hee hee hee ha ha ha
itsy bitsy tinee winee yellow polka dot bikini
jaundice was the son when he was born
kookaburra’s raucous laughter seems to mock
lachesism is not something I wish to happen
mud flood I don’t give a thud
numb I become when I don’t move an inch
obey me today, you say no way Jose
pulse is racing when I get excited
quill driver I hope to be one day
rough as toast as could ever be
saliva from the dog as he licked me
trembling with excitement and anxiety
upturned tubs and all flowers were thrown about
verse one, chapter one and I can’t wait to read
wistful thinking if I can finish it in one sitting
Xerarch that’s a new word for me
yield afield as I shield the unrevealed
zigzag course when chased by predators

On Top of the Hill

on top of the hill, there’s a fire so close
like a drill, trees get burned in rows
a vision so gross like what the prophet said
in the boroughs people cry as the fire spreads
repent for we have sinned, the naked truth hurts
to our chagrin, nothing works with our effort
unholy as the light shines, scarring us for life
could this be a sign, to think of the afterlife?
until the time we can’t hide anymore
pay for our crime, that’s the cure
