rift round-up 🙂

Fear widens the rift
Twixt judgement and empathy
Kinship counts for naught
Shared humanity falters
Where love would open the door

The photo for this week’s prompt was taken at Alderley Edge when the woods, like the mysterious stone in Alan Garner’s books, were golden. It is a place of magic and legend at any season and, wandering its footpaths, you can feel why Garner made the Edge the central ‘character’ in the Weirdstone of Brisingamen and its sequels.
The rift is a part of an old mine working. One part of it is crudely labelled the Devil’s Grave, for if you run three times around it, widdershins, the devil himself will come for you… or so the tale goes.
